Rome where and what to eat. Where to eat in Rome (tips, "passwords" and "appearances")

The "wrong side" of Termini - castelfidardo street on the corner of 20 September street, called da Vincenco, awesome atmosphere, average hot seafood 20 euros, the rest is pennies! Suggested by the guide of the Vatican, thanks to her! A very Italian place, moderately pretentious, a minimum of tourists. Recommend!

For starters.

Food is almost the first most important thing for Italians. Absolutely seriously.
Italians love to eat, talk about food, tell what they ate themselves, and listen to what the interlocutor ate, what are his food preferences, traditions of national cuisines, old family recipes your great-grandmother.. In general, Food and Co ° is a more than grateful topic for conversation with people of any degree of acquaintance.

Almost any meeting of friends involves a plentiful feast, including a variety of first and second courses, appetizers and desserts.
There are people who do not have breakfast at home on the weekend, and are not too lazy to go down to the bar in the morning to drink a cup of cappuccino and eat a croissant (cornetto in Italian). A lot of people on the way to work necessarily drink a cup of espresso at the bar. At the end of the working day, people like to meet with friends for an aperitif. On Friday and, especially, Saturday evenings, pizzerias and restaurants are full of visitors.

Restaurants usually hang out their menus on the street, so you can roughly understand the prices and assortment without going inside. In addition to the main menu, many restaurants offer the so-called Turistico Menu (varies from 15 to 20 euros plus or minus) - this is essentially a set lunch that includes, for example, salad + main course (pasta or rice dish) + drink (water , lemonade), as an option - a small dessert. It is always necessary to clarify what is included in such a menu. In some cases, it can be beneficial and tasty.

You can also dine in establishments where there is a "hot table" (tavola calda) - a choice of cooked vegetables, meat, poultry, pasta, rice. The price of such a combined dish (piatto misto) is usually fixed, you can choose from the available ingredients. On average, a vegetable dish costs 4-5 euros, with meat - 6-7 euros.
Attention! Tavola calda is often offered only until 2-3 pm, in the afternoon the same establishment will offer only an aperitif and snacks.

In bars you can eat sandwiches (tramezzini, panini) - cheap and cheerful.

Pizza by weight (pizza a taglio) is a convenient and popular type of snack. A choice of several types of pizza, according to your desire, a piece will be cut off for you, which one you will show. In the same place you can often buy snacks such as suppli, arancini, cod fillet in batter, fiori di zucca ( squash flower Breaded). In some of these eateries you can sit, in some only takeaway sales are provided.

Pizzerias are restaurants where pizza is baked in wood-fired ovens. In the most famous and popular places, tables are booked in advance, or they stand in a long line. Here, not only delicious food is served, but visiting such a pizzeria is also a kind of introduction to the folk traditions of Italy. Sometimes you can see how the dough is kneaded in front of you, the filling is prepared and the pizza is sent to the oven, and then it is served on the table piping hot. A couple of addresses where I personally liked: Pizzeria Ai Marmi (Viale Trastevere 53), Il Buchetto (Via Flaminia, 119)

Confectionery (pasticceria). Here - sweets from different regions Italy (Sicilian are considered the best), and, of course, coffee, hot chocolate some have tea. I like the chain Ciuri-Ciuri, there are several of them around the city.

Ice cream. For me, the undisputed leader so far is the Grom network.

Aperitif. In the evening it is nice to have a glass of wine, a snack is usually included free of charge. The price of such an offer ranges from 6 to 10 euros, the price is often indicated by a prominent inscription at the entrance.
I like the bars in the San Lorenzo area on via dei Sabelli. This area is popular among students, so the audience is an amateur - motley, multinational. Depends on the mood.

In the piazza del Popolo area:
* Bar "Pane e formaggio", via di Ripetta 8. Coffee, sandwiches, tavola calda (until 2 pm)
* Salmoneria, via di Ripetta 40. Panini (sandwiches) with fish and seafood. A bit pricey, but tasty and nice staff. The counter seats are inside but can also be taken away. The average price is 5-6 euros for a panino.

Anna!! And this is from a branch where you should not settle. Side opposite st. Cavour. I lived, "wrongness" did not feel)). True, for many years in a row before that she lived with a friend on Bochea, but she moved)). Many Russian groups lodge at Termini, and the guide's help in choosing this restaurant was great alternative tourist food near the hotel. Been three times in a week, even booked in advance. Go! Very worthy! For me, it was a discovery despite the hyped places!

Here I read Temko and envy people who easily talk about Italian dishes, but I'm afraid to be hungry with an abundance of eateries, cafes and restaurants in Rome - I don't know Italian, English - modest knowledge. How is the menu in Russian? or is there another way to find out what to order in a cafe? I will give an example from experience: once I ordered a salad with fish (I translated it that way) - they brought some kind of pasty mixture, which I still did not understand how to eat: as a separate dish or as an addition to something - it tasted not really.

Irisha, well, the words pizza or spaghetti are pizza and spaghetti in Africa)
To orientate yourself in national cuisine, see, for example, http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%98%D1%82%D0%B0%D0%BB%D1%8C%D1%8F%D0%BD%D1%81% D0..."
In general, very often in restaurants in the historical center, where there are many tourists, there are Russian-speaking waiters. There is also a menu in Russian.

my friend, when the question arose of going to a good restaurant with exactly Roman cuisine, took me to Piccola Roma, not far from Piazza Columna and the Italian Parliament. There are probably many more such topics and better, but I liked this one

and I'm afraid to stay hungry with an abundance of eateries, cafes and restaurants in Rome - I don't know Italian, English - modest knowledge. How is the menu in Russian?

You can find restaurants with Russian menus. But honestly, I would avoid such places. These are just "tourist" cafes.
You can take care and buy a phrasebook-dictionary. So you at least understand what the dish consists of.
Secondly, Italians are the nicest people. They will try to understand you. And how do they explain it? Just in Rome, two Italians explained to me how to get to the hotel (when we got lost). My people sat in the car and did not hear anything, only saw. But they definitely understood all the way :) Sit down, look around, what people order. If you like something that looks and smells, show it to the waiter.
And indeed, as a rule, everything goes in sections on the menu. Here is pasta, here is meat, and so on.

I found the Piccola Roma restaurant on Google, the address is Via degli Uffici del Vicario, 36 00186 Roma Italy? I read one of the customer reviews, I quote verbatim:

This restaurant stands out because it is so far from the usual service one gets from Italian waiters, who are usually proud of the job they do and try to do make your meals a great experience. This is not the case here. The waiter, and old man, has been aggressively trying to make us order much more we could eat. We ordered one pasta dish each, mineral water and wine, and he became very angry when we refused to order more dishes. I noticed he did not react in the same way when Italian guests order just a pasta dish. We were charged 4 euros for bread, which had been brought without our ordering it. I noticed the waiter collected used napkins and other bits and pieces from the table, put them on top of the bread in the basked, went out with the basket and removed the rubbish on top, but then gave the bread to another customer. The waiter pressed us to go immediately, although the restaurant was almost empty. The food was OK, but not special. The price for a pasta dish was around 10 euros, and in addition came the 4 euros for the unasked for bread. To sum it up, the service was terrible, the food OK, the hygiene bad, the prices high. Why go here? Not recommended. Remember the street name though, the excellent Giolitti is in Via degli Uffici del Vicario, 40.

Enjoyed this review. despite it, I liked the interior in the photo!

“Where to eat tasty and inexpensive in Rome?” What to try from local cuisine? - these are, perhaps, the most frequent questions that travelers who have arrived in the Eternal City ask us. Indeed, despite the fact that restaurants, pizzerias and taverns are located at every turn in Rome, not all of them are worthy of the attention of a hungry tourist. We sincerely advise you to avoid establishments that offer a tourist menu ("menu turistico"), those that are located right on the main squares of the city, and to which local barkers insistently invite you directly from the street.

It is much better to act like a real Roman - go to a tavern or a small family restaurant with local cuisine, a simple interior and hospitable Italian staff.

And now let's talk about taverns with local Roman cuisine:

When we talk about Italy, one of the first associations that comes up is delicious and healthy food. It is not difficult to imagine that upon arriving in this beautiful, sunny country, a tourist immediately loses his head from alluring smells and a huge number of all kinds of cafes, restaurants, trattorias, etc. Let's try to figure out how they differ from each other. The establishments that I recommend visiting in Rome in this article are selected based on personal impressions and opinions of local residents. In this matter, I trust the Italians more, who know a lot about good food and will not recommend mediocre places. And further little advice: if you want to eat inexpensively and tasty in a really good place, do not ask the hotel reception for the address. Better go outside and ask the locals, they will be happy to tell you.

Ristorante

It is believed that restaurants these are the most expensive establishments with first-class service, but today in Rome you can find places with quite reasonable prices. Don't be embarrassed that some restaurants look unpresentable from the outside, don't rate, in this case, a candy by its wrapper :) . If you are afraid of a big bill, it is better to first study the menu, which is displayed at the entrance.

La Rosetta is one of the best fish restaurants city, has been operating since 1966. In addition to dishes prepared from the freshest fish, you will be offered a large selection sea delicacies and oysters. The institution is quite expensive, located next to the Pantheon on Via della Rosetta, 8. You can get acquainted with the menu and the restaurant itself on the official website www.larosetta.com.

Casetta di Trastevere is located in the Trastevere area at Piazza Dè Renzi, 31a. The interior of the restaurant is made in the form of a typical Italian square with ropes stretched between the houses, on which clothes are dried. Here you will be offered traditional Roman cuisine: pasta, pizza, homemade wine, desserts, etc. The place is very popular among the Romans, which speaks for itself. The prices will pleasantly surprise you.

Ponte & Parione is a small cozy restaurant located next to Piazza Navona on Via di Santa Maria dell’Anima, 62. The menu includes traditional Roman cuisine. One of the most popular dishes- pasta with huge seafood wrapped in foil. The average bill is 20-30 euros.

"Da Meo Patacca" - perhaps the most unusual restaurant district of Trastevere, its address: Piazza de' Mercanti, 30. In the 60s of the last century, among its visitors one could often meet Hollywood stars who came to Italy for inspiration. Gourmets can taste traditional Roman dishes here: veal tails (coda alla vaccinara) and offal (trippa). If you are not ready for such feats, you will be offered a more familiar menu. Only Italians work in the restaurant, live music is played here. Waiters and musicians often jokingly begin to theatrically be rude to visitors, provoking them into a skirmish. Thus, the atmosphere of a real Roman trattoria is maintained in the restaurant, so you can safely answer in the same tone :) Official website www.ristorantedameopatacca.it

Trattoria, Osteria or Taverna.

Trattorias, osterias and taverns are ideal for those who want to eat tasty and not expensive. In Rome, many of them are family businesses. This is a family trattoria: Alessio, the father of the family and the chef, is responsible for the kitchen with his daughter Claudia, and his wife Maria Grazia receives visitors and son Aldo. Not the cheapest place, but it is highly praised by Italians and tourists for its excellent cuisine, especially for the desserts that Claudia personally prepares. Website of the institution www.latavernadeiforiimperiali.com.

Trattoria Monti is a 10 minute walk from Termini Station or 4 minutes from Vittorio Emanuele Metro Station on Via di San Vito, 13. This is a small but very nice trattoria serving simple traditional Roman cuisine. Polite and attentive staff, low prices and excellent food - what else do you need for a good lunch or dinner. Pizzeria "Dar Poeta" is located in the Trastevere district at Vicolo del Bologna, 45. A very popular establishment among Italians, largely due to desserts and pizza cooked on yeast-free dough. The average price of a pizza is 8 euros.

Pizzeria "Pinsere" is located on Via Flavia, 98, a 10-minute walk from the metro station Reppublica. Here they prepare a small oval pizza (including takeaway pizza) according to old recipes. And if you do not want to buy a whole bottle of expensive wine, you can simply order a glass for yourself and enjoy its taste. Often the enoteca is combined with a restaurant, usually not cheap, so before you sit down at a table, study the menu carefully.
