Thai food is very unusual. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is prepared from very unusual products for us, and the methods of its preparation are unusual. Therefore, it is quite difficult to reproduce such dishes at home, because you need to achieve special flavors. But you can still try to cook the most popular dishes.

Beef dish

Thai beef is a completely new interpretation, it would seem familiar dish... If you offer your guests such a meal, they will be very surprised and will most likely ask for more.

The dish turns out to be slightly spicy and spicy, which gives it a certain piquancy. The mixture of sauces and spices gives the usual meat a completely new sound.

For cooking, you will need the following products:

Cooking beef

After that, the cereal can be poured with water in a ratio of 1 to 1.5 and sent to boil over medium heat. Rice is considered ready as soon as all the liquid has evaporated.

In the meantime, you can move on to preparing the meat. The beef needs to be marinated. Cut it into small slices and put in a bowl. Now you need to prepare the marinade: squeeze the juice from the lemongrass, and cut the pulp, add soy sauce and exactly half of the prepared starch. We send the resulting mixture to beef.

Chop the garlic and finely chop the chili pepper. Mix these ingredients together and add the fish sauce, as well as the sugar and juice of the fourth part of the lime.

Next, you need to cut green onions, and dissolve the remaining starch in the broth. Now fry the beef in a well-heated pan for a few minutes, after removing the lemongrass. Then add the oyster sauce (prepared by us) and the broth with starch to the pan. Mix all the ingredients and bring to a boil. Finally, add basil and onions, after which the pan is removed from the stove.

Now you need to serve the dish correctly. Put the beef on boiled rice and decorate it with cilantro greens on top.

Pad thai

We would like to bring to your attention a recipe for one of the most popular and delicious Pad Thai consists of fried flat rice noodles (its width is about half a centimeter) and tamarind (sweet and sour) sauce. Unfortunately, the second component is very difficult to find here. Therefore, you can simply replace with a mixture of fish and soy sauce with lime juice and vegetable oil (peanut and sesame seeds work well).

So let's start by preparing the noodles. It must be boiled according to the instructions on the package, and then rinsed. Next, we clean the shrimp, removing all unnecessary from them. Beat several large eggs in a separate bowl with a whisk.

Chop the onion feathers, chop a few shallots and one garlic clove. Salted toasted peanuts should be chopped.

Next, let's move on to cooking meat. Cut one hundred or two hundred grams of pork into slices. We put a wok on the stove and heat the sesame oil on it. Put the shallots in a bowl and fry them for about a minute, then add the meat and cook for a couple of minutes too. After that, put the garlic and shrimps in the pan and fry all the ingredients for a few more minutes, remembering to stir constantly.

Now you need to introduce eggs into the pan and mix everything thoroughly. If the wok is too hot, you can lift it up and stir the contents by weight. The eggs should turn into something that looks like flakes. This effect is not easy to achieve.

Put a tablespoon of ketchup, two tablespoons of fish sauce, a teaspoon of sugar (it is better to use cane or palm), juice of one lime, and sprouted legumes in the dish. Mix all components again and remove from heat. Sprinkle the finished dish with onions, ground pepper and chopped peanuts. After mixing the ingredients well, food is served in special bowls.

Siracha sauce

Thai siracha sauce is incredibly aromatic and spicy, it goes well with almost any dish: rolls, fish, meat, and is also used when baking food.

Ingredients:

  1. Three cloves of garlic.
  2. Chili pepper - 65 g.
  3. A tablespoon of soy sauce.
  4. One onion head.
  5. Rice vinegar - 2 tbsp l.
  6. A tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  7. Tomato paste - 120 g.
  8. Sugar - 2 tbsp. l.

This sauce was first prepared fifty years ago by a secret man in a small village. Everyone liked him incredibly. And after some time, the recipe was bought out and the sauce began to be produced in large volumes. Siracha is still very popular in Asian countries. Cooking should start by frying chopped onions and chopped garlic in a pan. Next, you need to add pepper and tomato, and simmer the workpiece for five minutes. Now you can add vinegar, soy sauce and sugar. Cooking the dish until the ingredients are soft. After our sauce has cooled down a little, it must be chopped in a blender. An amazing combination of beef flesh with potatoes, stewed exclusively in coconut milk, complemented by aromas of spices, resulting in a very harmonious dish.

Ingredients:

  1. Coconut milk - 220 g.
  2. Beef - 430 g.
  3. Onion sets - 18 pcs.
  4. Tamarind paste to taste.
  5. Massaman curry paste - 60 g.
  6. Fish sauce to taste.
  7. Cashews or roasted peanuts.
  8. White cardamom - 5 pcs.
  9. Bay leaves to taste.
  10. Half a teaspoon of cumin.

Recipe

Fry cardamom and cumin in a dry wok. Cut the meat into pieces. Remove the cream from the can of milk (coconut) and add it to the pan along with the curry paste. Fry the ingredients until the cream begins to release butter. Next, put the meat in the wok and simmer it in the mixture until tender (thirty or forty minutes). In the meantime, prepare the onions and potatoes, peel and chop in large pieces... Twenty minutes before the end of cooking meat, add onions, potatoes and fish sauce to the pan. Recipe

Green curry

Ingredients:

  1. Pea eggplants - one handful.
  2. Thai eggplants - 6 pieces.
  3. One chicken breast.
  4. Winter melon - 250 g.
  5. Coconut milk can.
  6. Chili pepper - 3 pcs.
  7. Curry paste (green) - 3 tbsp l.
  8. Three cloves of garlic.
  9. Two tablespoons of fish sauce.
  10. Lime leaves.
  11. Palm sugar.

Vegetables must be prepared: we pluck pea eggplants from the branches, cut the round ones, cut the melon into pieces, grind the pepper in the form of rings. Chili and garlic need to be ground in a mortar and fried on vegetable oil... Can be used for frying and coconut cream. Next, add the curry paste to the pan and fry the ingredients for a couple of minutes. Then pour in some of the milk (coconut) and stir the mixture, put the pieces of chicken and continue cooking over very low heat. You cannot bring the dish to a boil, otherwise coconut milk may simply delaminate.

Now you can pour out the rest of the milk and cook without forgetting to stir. Add sugar, fish sauce, pea eggplants, chili, lime leaves and reheat everything. At the very end of cooking, basil leaves are added to the curry. They are added to the dish and immediately removed from the fire. Curry is usually served with rice noodles and rice.

Thai salad

Som Tam salad is incredibly popular with Thai women. The dish consists of almost some herbs and is quickly prepared. There are two types of Som Tama: with salted crabs and dried shrimp.

Ingredients:

  1. Green papaya.
  2. Two chili peppers.
  3. Six cherry tomatoes.

Thai shrimp

Thai shrimp is an incredibly delicious seafood dish. To prepare it, we need:

  1. Tiger prawns (large) - 0.8 kg.
  2. Lime leaves.
  3. Lemon sorghum - four stalks.
  4. Ginger - 60 g.
  5. Two chili peppers.
  6. Sesame oil - 6 tablespoons l.
  7. The juice of three oranges.
  8. Sea salt.

Grind the ginger and garlic on a grater, having previously peeled it off. Cut the lemongrass stalks into four parts. Finely chop the chili pepper and add it to the ginger and garlic. Pour orange juice, sesame oil there, put salt, lemongrass, lime leaves and mix the ingredients well. The result is a marinade. Add shrimp to it and let it brew in the refrigerator for six hours. Wrap the marinated seafood in several layers of foil and bake on charcoal or on a wire rack. The approximate cooking time is 10-15 minutes.

Today, any traveler will confirm that Thai cuisine is one of the most famous in the world. By the way, ordinary products from our stores can be turned into Thai products, you just have to add special spices to them.

Noodles are the second staple of Thai cuisine. She is taken to prepare the second and first courses. Serve noodles with pork, peanuts, eggs. The Thai people are very fond of soups. They, without regret, add seasonings to them. The most famous soup in Thailand is Tom Yam, which has a sharp sour taste due to the addition of ginger and lemongrass. This is a "nuclear" soup, even if you add very little seasoning to it. Salads and snacks in the country are very light, seasoned with oyster vinegar or lime salt. And of course, glove is the perfect menu for dieters.

Food in shops

The shops in Thailand sell a variety of foods that you can cook on your own. There is already ready meals that only need to be heated in the microwave. In the resort of Pattaya, small shops of the Friendship Supermarket, Seven Eleven (7/11), Family Mart are built almost at every step. The prices in them are very affordable, practically, as in Russia, and the sea is edible there, despite the diminutive size of these establishments. Non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks are presented in an incredible variety, dry noodles, hot chicken, already cooked, which can be eaten right on the street or taken to your hotel. There are a lot of products brewed in boiling water in Thailand. If you have a boiler or kettle in your room, then you don't have to buy anything else, and you don't have to go to restaurants.

Food is cheaper in large supermarkets in Pattaya than in small shops. Large shopping centers in Thailand, these are Big C, Lotus, Mike Shopping Mall, Central Festival Pattaya, Tops, Friendship supermarket.

It is quite understandable that the expression “there are no comrades for taste and color” is the best fit to emphasize that everyone has different tastes and needs in food. Someone lobsters stuffed with black caviar and truffles are no longer a joy, and their cost seems to be a penny, but for someone a handful of rice will seem like a blessing, for which you need to give all your capital.

First, a few words about our tastes and needs:

  • we do not make a cult out of food, but we love to eat, while we know when to stop;
  • we do not eat a lot, but also not a little - it is normal for an ordinary person;

  • we prefer to eat where the local population does it - tastier, much cheaper and, surprisingly, safer for the stomach;
  • we are not afraid and love to try something new and unusual.

The proverb "Eat breakfast yourself, share lunch with a friend, and give dinner to the enemy" is not quite suitable for us. We will definitely use the morning portion ourselves, we will definitely not give the evening portion to anyone. But we can sometimes “donate” lunch. This usually happens when we find ourselves on some secluded bounty beach, which we don't want to part with.

Well, now directly to the specific numbers and diet. As already mentioned, let's take a recent trip to Thailand (Phuket and Ko Lanta), which took place this winter, as an example. the most, that neither is - "high season". Who cares, this trip for 27 days, for two, with a round-trip flight, cost us $ 2050, you can read more about the budget. So how much does it cost to eat in Thailand? To eat, in the sense, is just to eat, and not to arrange for yourself a mega-feast of the belly, followed by the use of festal and noshpa.

Breakfast and its price

Following the proverb, we eat it ourselves, but we prefer an easy option that does not load up to a state of full sleepiness, because there is a busy day of rest ahead, and starting it in the morning with a nap after breakfast is not for us.

The morning menu looks like this:

  • coffee - costs can be ignored, because we usually buy a large pack and, in terms of a portion, these are mere pennies. However, if you are interested, for example - a 3 in 1 bag can be bought for 1-2 baht
  • milk for coffee - 200g approx. 15 baht
  • fruit - 1 large mango per person. The price of 1 kg (about 4 pieces) of a good mango is from 30 to 100 baht. On average, they bought at 60. We get 60: 4 = 15
  • yogurt for fruit smoothies - 15bat
  • Thai "buns" for breakfast - 1 portion 5 baht. By this we mean all kinds of products from rice, coconut, bananas and other things that are sold in the morning on Thai stalls. For two of us, 4 servings is enough. In total 4x5 = 20 baht.

Total, the cost of breakfast for two: 20 + 30 + 15 + 20 = 85

But, to be honest, I personally do not eat fruit for breakfast, I prefer an extra "bun", and we usually beat smoothies in the evening, so at least 15 can be subtracted, i.e. = 70bat.

Lunch and its price

Everything is simple here. Most often we dine at some Thai restaurant we like. Svetlana prefers vegetarian cuisine or with "seafoods", I am "chikkenov" or also seafood and I love noodle soup. The normal cost of traditional Thai dishes in a vegetarian version is 40-50 baht, with seafood or chicken 50-60 baht. The portions in such local restaurants are quite impressive, one dish is enough for us, well, sometimes we take a salad (40-60 baht), one for two.

Tea, coffee, juice, etc. we don't drink at lunch, preferring plain water since it quenches thirst better after spicy Asian food. In local cafes, it is almost always served free of charge and with ice. Thus, we have lunch for two at a maximum cost of 180 baht. But usually it takes 100-120, tk. we almost always gorge ourselves without salad.

Dinner and its price

Here, perhaps, we do not have a clear menu and preferences. We can go back to the Thai eatery (see prices above). We can go to the evening market to buy delicious thai salads(good portion 30-40 baht), barbecues from king prawns(1 portion of 3 pcs. = 10 baht), grilled squid (40 baht), rolls (from 10 baht) with green milk tai-tea (if we are not mistaken from 14 baht at 7Eleven), fruits, etc.

Or we can just dine in the tie-buffet, where together for 60 baht you can gobble up well. But, be that as it may, 200 baht is enough for us for dinner, more often 150-160 baht is enough.

Total food costs per day

Taking into account all of the above, we get the following cost of food in Thailand for two per day: 85 (breakfast) +180 (lunch) +200 (dinner) = 465 baht. If I may say so, this is the average maximum figure. The following is more common for us personally: 70 (breakfast) +120 (lunch) +160 (dinner) = 350 baht.

Of course, here you should definitely add the costs of drinking water... As a rule, we buy it in large bottles, as a result, about 30-40 baht per day comes out.

At the end of the story, we note that everything that has been said is a very average version. Sometimes, for a number of reasons, we can spend less, and sometimes much more. We do not have a clear planning of the cost of food per day, we limit ourselves only to an approximate figure of the total cost of the day, which we try not to go beyond.

Any dish is based on rice, rice noodles, vegetables and, of course, various pastes and sauces, without which more than one dish can do. It is they who give an incomparable and rich taste.

Rice dish

Pad Thai is one of the famous dishes in Thailand. It represents rice noodles with egg, fried in a wok and several sauces to choose from: fish sauce, oyster and tamarind. Chicken, seafood or pork is used as a filling. The dish is very tasty, and cannot get bored because of the variety of fillings and the type of noodles. It can be wide, thin, rice or egg. And besides, each housewife has her own tricks and secrets in the preparation of this or that dish, giving it an individual taste. Therefore, the same dish prepared by different housewives will not be similar to each other.

The cost in the markets and cafes for local residents is 40 baht. The cost of the same dish in restaurants ranges from 70 to 100 baht.

Tom yum kun spicy shrimp soup. In the soup, there is only edible broth with shrimps, and you don't need to pay attention to everything else. All this herb is inedible and is added only to milk the taste. Among them, there you will find lemongrass, galangal and lime leaves. All this seasoning must be present in the soup, and you shouldn't ask for soup without it, it's just like asking for dumplings without meat.

Curry - There are two types of curry: green and yellow. It is more suitable for lovers of spicy dishes. Green curry is great for chicken meat... Served in a deep bowl, it looks more like a soup. V a large number sauce floating chicken meat and vegetables. Rice cannot be combined with curry, so it is better to order it separately and preferably 2 servings, because the gravy is very spicy and it is simply not possible to eat it without rice, but at the same time it is very tasty.

The cost of a dish in the market is 30 baht, and in restaurants - from 70 to 150 baht. Rice costs 10 baht.

Stir-fried is a Chinese wok cooking technique. Vegetables, chicken, pork and seafood are fried in a special sweet sauce with constant stirring. This technique resembles the process of stewing, but only Thais do it much faster, which is why the vegetables pass a little heat treatment, thanks to which they retain their useful properties.

Cost in restaurants: a whole grilled fish for two is 250 baht, for one oyster - from 40 to 60 pieces, for a plate of mussels - 100 baht, and fried squid with vegetables will cost you 80 baht.

Where to eat better

When going on vacation to Thailand, remember one simple rule. The most delicious and cheapest food in the cafe where the locals dine. It is easy and simple to recognize them among a huge number. These are small eateries with plastic, less often stone tables, chairs or benches installed under a canopy. Open-air kitchen. In the kitchen there is a gas stove and a table with everyone essential ingredients... Everything happens before your eyes. There is no menu here at all, or they give a printout of 10 items on an A4 sheet. Local residents and those who are not embarrassed come here to eat appearance such eateries. After them, you will not want to eat food cooked on your own.

Markets and Street Vending

All the most essential products and spices can be bought on the market. There are two types of markets: daytime and evening. With the day markets, I think everything is clear, but the evening markets open at sunset and this is a real feast for the belly. Mango is considered the king of all fruits. In season, its cost is 30 baht per kilogram. Out of season - generally reaches 80 baht per kilogram

Papaya costs 35 baht per kilogram

Bananas on the market are sold not by a kilogram, but in a bunch. There are 4 types of them.

A bunch of 15 baby bananas costs 20 baht

Dragon fruit, guava and watermelon cost 50 baht per kilogram.

Coconuts, which make the most important drink on this island, cost 20 baht. In restaurants, they cost up to 50 baht.

Tangerines, durian, lychee, mangosteen and rambutans can be tasted in Southeast Asia or South America.

The choice of products is simply huge, and there are even more dishes that can be prepared from them. And everyone can find for themselves among such an abundance of taste to their liking. Having tried this or that dish in a cafe or restaurant, you want to cook it yourself. To learn this, not necessarily expensive culinary schools, it is enough to go to the market and watch how with dexterous movements of the hands the locals cook the same dishes in 5 minutes. Well, if something does not work out, then do not be discouraged - the first pancake is always lumpy.
