Salad with croutons, ham and Chinese cabbage

There are many recipes in my arsenal simple recipes, from a series - opened, mixed, refueled and served. The salad, which I will talk about today, is also from this series. The main thing in it is to choose the right ratio of products so that they are in harmony with each other and do not make the dish heavier. My family really like it. Juicy, crispy Peking cabbage, the most delicate corn, hearty ham, all together - this is an "explosion of taste." I cook and spoil my eaters from time to time. They are delicious, but I am pleased. Try to make such a salad too. If you are not using mayonnaise, fill it with sour cream or natural thick yogurt.

Ingredients (for 2-3 servings):

  • Chinese cabbage: 2-3 leaves;
  • tomato - 1pc;
  • canned corn - 3 tablespoons;
  • ham - 70g;

As you can see, it prepares very quickly and the products are very affordable. Peking cabbage is a storehouse of vitamins and goes almost perfectly with all ingredients.

For me, the main and only rule when preparing salads is: products must be compatible with each other in terms of taste. The sense of proportion should prevail over the desire to mix everything and more. Taste receptors, and the chef's intuition will show itself during tasting - they will tell you what can and cannot be added from the products to the salad.

Salt the dish at the very end, and even better before serving. If using very delicate herbs, substitute lemon juice for salt.

Cook with your heart, and your creation will not only be beautiful, but also useful.

Juicy white-green heads of Peking cabbage came to us from China. Hence the names "Peking", "Chinese" or "Petsai". Cabbage has become widespread, and today it is difficult to imagine a store or market where you could not find it on the shelves. Peking cabbage leaves are used for making salads, and heads of cabbage are added to soups, side dishes, dried, fermented and pickled.

The list of dishes where you can use Chinese cabbage is quite long. For example, I like to add it to red borscht instead of the usual white one. But today I will share with you three of my favorites salads with ham, cheese and Chinese cabbage.

Ham and Peking Cabbage Salad

Kitchenware: cutting board; cutting knife; pot; deep bowl; grater.

Ingredients

How to choose Chinese cabbage

  • The main criterion for selection, as with any other vegetables, is freshness. Only crispy fresh petsay leaves will give the dish a unique taste. The leaves should not be lethargic, and the lighter their shade, the juicier the cabbage.
  • The head of cabbage should not be too soft or too hard. Preference should be given to medium-sized heads of cabbage. The leaves should be firm and dry to the touch.
  • Do not use cabbage with signs of rotting leaves, damage, mucus, or moisture. If condensation has accumulated in the bag or film in which the head of cabbage is wrapped, it is better not to take it either. If the head of cabbage is large, and the leaves give off yellowness, the product is overripe and will not differ in juiciness.

The third salad on my list with ham, Chinese cabbage, cucumber and apple is perhaps the most original and most savory. Lime juice in combination with apples gives a unique taste, and this salad is also rich in vitamins.

  1. I cut a slice of my favorite ham weighing 300 g into strips.

  2. Onion head (I like red, it is more suitable for use in fresh) shredded in thin half rings.

  3. Chopped strips of Chinese cabbage leaves, I need 350-400 g by weight.

  4. I cut one large cucumber first into slices in length, and then also into strips. I peel the apple and also cut it into thin strips.

  5. I squeeze the juice of one lime onto the apples.

  6. I mix all the ingredients, season with salt and pepper to taste, add mayonnaise or olive oil... I grate semi-hard cheese or finely chop it with a knife.

  7. I put the salad on a serving plate and sprinkle with cheese on top.

For additional information, I am adding a video of cutting this salad:

There are countless different salads in the world. You can cook a new one every day and not repeat for a long time. But every housewife probably has a list of favorite, already proven recipes that are served more often than others.

And if you do not like to experiment and prefer classic recipes, serve traditional.

I hope you liked my Chinese cabbage salad recipes, leave comments on the site and tell about your favorites. Bon Appetit!

Step 1: prepare the cabbage.

Rinse the Chinese cabbage thoroughly, removing all fine grains of sand and other dirt with a jet of water. Select leaves that are fresh and juicy, without yellow or dark spots. Place them on a cutting board, cut off the pale part of the leaves, about 3-4 centimeters, and, pressing slightly with your hand, cut into thin strips. You can also make several longitudinal cuts first, and then chop the cabbage, in which case you will get smaller pieces.

Step 2: prepare the ham.

Just cut the ham into thin strips or small cubes, as you like.

Step 3: prepare the bell pepper.

Divide the bell pepper into two equal parts. Use a knife to cut the core out of the vegetable and remove the tail. Rinse the remaining dirt and seeds adhered to the inner walls of the vegetable. Slice Bell pepper as well as ham, that is, into strips or cubes, depending on how you cut the meat.

Step 4: prepare the canned corn.

Open the can of corn. Be sure to drain all the excess liquid, we don't need it in the salad.

Step 5: mix salad with Chinese cabbage and ham.

Place all ingredients in a deep bowl. The salad is not flaky, so place everything in no particular order. First, lightly salt the salad, pepper, and then add mayonnaise and mix everything thoroughly together. Try to see if there is enough, perhaps add salt or pepper. If the taste suits you, then you can safely proceed to serving the salad on the table. You don't need to insist on it, as you can see.

Step 6: Serve the Peking Cabbage and Ham salad.

Serve the Chinese cabbage and ham salad as a complete meal. Divide it into portioned plates, add a couple of slices of bread, croutons or French toast and start eating.
Bon Appetit!

And those who do not eat mayonnaise can replace it with vegetable oil.

In general, the recipe for this salad can be very easily changed and adapted to what you have in the fridge at the moment. For example, feel free to replace corn with canned peas, and you can also add green onions, radishes or tomatoes.

Serving this or any other salad on festive table, use special molds to give the salad a more presentable appearance.
