So sooner or later you will try all these recipes and choose a few favorites that you will constantly use. With so many electric waffle maker recipes, you shouldn't be bored.

Waffles are considered one of the most beloved desserts in the world. Culinary delights have won fans of all ages, and delicacy recipes have been passed down from generation to generation for more than one hundred years in a row. The name of the pastry comes from the German word "Waffel", which literally means "honeycomb, cell". If you look closely at the finished product, especially baked in a special waffle iron, then indeed, in its configuration it resembles a honeycomb of bees.

The first waffle baking tool known to the world was invented by the American Cornelius Swarthout about 150 years ago. It was a two-part frying pan that was heated over hot coals and turned over from time to time. The next stage of the waffle era was marked by the middle of the 20th century, when industrial kitchen units for baking waffles on a gas stove appeared. Now the delicacy is cooked in electric waffle irons, which have a non-stick coating and differ in shape, design, and are available for thin and thick waffles.

There are dozens of varieties of dessert. They differ in the features of dough preparation, shape, taste (sweet, neutral, salty). Waffle dough may differ in the degree of softness-hardness and thickness, the presence or absence of a porous structure inside. In addition, some types of waffles are served on their own, and some are filled with a wide variety of fillings.

There are many recipes, and each of them is designed to solve a specific culinary task. Let's collect basic dough recipes for each case.

  • Products for all waffle recipes should be at the same room temperature.
  • Butter or margarine must be softened. You need to understand that margarine in baking was used from poverty, as a cheap and affordable product. We strongly recommend to give preference to butter in all recipes.
  • Eggs, milk, kefir, cream, yogurt must first be taken out of the refrigerator.
  • Before baking, the waffle iron will most likely need to be lubricated with vegetable oil (refer to the instructions for the appliance).
  • In some recipes, there is such a measure of volume as a glass. In a glass of 250 ml.

Recipes for making thin waffles

The dough for an electric waffle iron is very easy to prepare, it can also be used for a gas waffle iron. It usually has a liquid or semi-liquid consistency and is mixed from available products that every housewife usually has.

Plain unsweetened waffles

Ingredients:

  • wheat flour - 200 g
  • chicken egg - 1 pc.
  • soda or baking powder - ½ tsp
  • vinegar or lemon juice - ½ tsp
  • milk - 1 tbsp.
  • salt - a pinch
  • margarine (butter) - 3 tbsp. l.
  • and also for lubrication of the form - 1 tsp. vegetable oil or 10 g pork fat (unsalted).

Making dough for thin waffles in an electric waffle iron

  1. Put flour in a bowl and mix it with baking powder. Separately mix milk with egg yolk. Pour this mixture into the flour, mix everything.
  2. Melt butter in a water bath. Carefully pour it into the dough in a thin stream, stirring constantly.
  3. Beat the dough well so that it becomes a homogeneous consistency. Leave it to "rest" for 1 hour. After this time, beat the protein with a pinch of salt, add to the dough and mix.
    The electric waffle iron should be plugged in 5-10 minutes before the start of baking the dough so that it heats up. It is advisable to install it on a metal tray. Do not forget to grease both internal surfaces of the appliance with vegetable oil, lard or unsalted lard.
  4. Spread a little dough (about a tablespoon) on the bottom of the waffle iron. If it turns out to be a batter, it will obediently spread to the sides, if it is thick, smooth it out a little with a spoon. Close waffle iron.
  5. The duration of baking is on average 2 minutes (+ - 0.5 minutes). If the steam stops escaping through the gap, then this portion of the dough is fried. The finished waffle cake should be a nice golden color.
  6. Place each serving of waffles on a wire rack to dry and cool. Do not stack them in a pile, otherwise they will not be crispy later.
  7. Such thin waffles turn out crispy, have a neutral taste, so they can be lubricated with both sweet and salty fillings. Keep in mind that waffle cakes get soaked from too wet filling.

Wafer rolls

This is one of the best cakes that can be made quite easily at home using an electric waffle iron.

Ingredients:

  • eggs -5 pcs.
  • butter (high fat margarine) - 200 g
  • Sugar - 1 cup (maybe a little less, to taste)
  • wheat flour - 180 g (1 whole glass + 1/3 tbsp.)
  • sunflower oil for lubricating the working surface of the device - 1 tbsp. l.

Preparing dough for wafer rolls

  1. Melt the butter and beat it with sugar using a mixer (alternatively, you can add softened butter in pieces). Now we put the eggs and beat everything again.
  2. Gradually add flour, mix. Ready-made dough in consistency like thick sour cream (as for frying fritters).
  3. Lubricate the working surface of the electric waffle iron with vegetable oil and plug it into the network. Lubricate only once, before baking the first cake. Then, during the baking process, the oil added inside will stand out from the dough, and lubricate the device.
  4. The heating level of the device should not be checked with a finger, so as not to burn yourself. It is better to put a drop of dough on the surface with a spoon and see if it starts to fry. Typically, this kind of units are heated for 5 minutes.
  5. On the lower surface of the device (in the center) lay out 2 tbsp. spoons of dough and tightly close the device, pressing the 2 handles. Do not pour too much dough, otherwise it will flow out of the edges of the electric waffle iron. If you put less dough, you get a small cake, from which a small tube will come out.
  6. Bake each cake for 2-3 minutes. Open the appliance and see if the waffle is pale, leave it to bake for another 1-2 minutes.
  7. Using a spatula, we pry off the finished cake, take it out of the electric waffle iron, put it on a flat plate or tray and very quickly turn it into a tube. Hold for a few seconds to fix the shape. It is important to do this while the waffle is hot and pliable. After cooling, it does not twist, but breaks. Use cloth gloves to avoid burning your fingers.
  8. Depending on your preference, the cakes can be twisted into tubes of different thicknesses, as well as twisted into a triangular horn. Any design is convenient for filling with cream.

Recipes for thick waffles

For baking thick soft waffles, another type of electrical appliance is used, the internal cells of which allow the product to be given a certain shape, for example, in the form of a square or a heart. There are also universal waffle irons with interchangeable panels for preparing various types of such pastries.

Viennese

Ingredients:

  • butter or margarine - 100g
  • premium flour - 180 g (1 whole glass + 1/3 tbsp.)
  • milk - 230 ml
  • eggs - 2 pcs.
  • granulated sugar - 100g
  • salt - ¼ tsp
  • vanillin - 1.5 g
  • baking powder - 1 tsp

Cooking

  1. Crack the eggs, separating the whites and yolks. The yolks should be rubbed with sugar.
  2. Add milk to this mixture and stir.
  3. Gradually add all the flour and the rest of the ingredients, except protein and salt. Butter must be melted. We mix. The dough is semi-thick, like pancakes.
  4. Now you should beat the whites with salt in the foam. Introduce proteins into the dough and mix everything.
  5. We bake the finished dough for Viennese waffles in portions in a waffle iron for several minutes until golden brown.
  6. You can serve such a delicacy with fruit jam, ice cream, condensed milk, whipped cream. As a drink, tea, coffee or just milk is suitable.

Belgian

Ingredients:

  • butter - 270 g
  • flour - 1 cup + ¾ cup
  • sugar - 100 g
  • salt - a pinch
  • eggs - 4 pcs.
  • vegetable oil for lubricating the form - 2 tsp.

Crispy Brussels waffles

Ingredients:

  • light beer - 1 tbsp.
  • flour - 1 tbsp.
  • vegetable oil - 2 tbsp. l.
  • vanilla sugar - 1 tsp
  • lemon juice - ½ tsp
  • egg - 1 pc.
  • salt - a pinch
  • grated lemon zest - 2 tsp

Cooking

  1. Mix flour with vanilla and salt. Add lemon zest.
  2. In another bowl, mix lemon juice with beer, egg, and oil.
  3. Add the dry mix from another bowl to the wet ingredients. Knead the dough with a spoon or using the attachments of a mixer.
  4. Leave the dough to "ripen" for two hours.
  5. Then bake the waffles in portions, each for 3 minutes.

cornmeal dough recipe

Ingredients:

  • eggs - 2 pcs.
  • butter (margarine) - 50 g
  • cornmeal - 150 g
  • milk - 200 ml
  • liquid honey - 4 tbsp. l.
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • cognac or rum - 1 tsp
  • chopped almonds - 2 tsp

Cooking

Melt the butter, combine with the rest of the ingredients, knead the dough and let it brew for 15 minutes. Then we bake our dessert.

Wafers on yogurt

Ingredients:

  • eggs - 3 pieces
  • sweet yogurt (vanilla or fruit) - 1.5 cups (375 g)
  • wheat flour - 1.25 cups (150 g)
  • baking powder - 1 teaspoon or soda - 1/2 teaspoon
  • salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • butter - 100 g.

Cooking

  • Beat eggs in a large bowl, then add yogurt, flour, baking powder, soda, salt, melted butter, mixing until smooth.
  • Pour a small amount of batter into the hot waffle iron. The dough will expand slightly under the lid.
  • Bake for approximately 5 minutes.

Dough for gas waffle iron

If you have a baking dish for baking waffle cookies on gas since Soviet times, then this recipe is for you. The inner surface of such a waffle iron can be in the form of a solid disk for frying round wide waffles. And some devices inside have divisions in the form of cells for baking small triangular or figured wafers. The disadvantage of old-style waffle irons is that, unlike modern units, they do not have a non-stick coating. Because of this, the first portions of the dough often stick, so it is very important to pre-lubricate the form with vegetable oil.

Ingredients:

  • sour cream - 1 cup
  • sugar - 1 cup
  • eggs - 2 pcs.
  • butter, softened - 200 g
  • baking powder or soda - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 cups.

Cooking

  1. Combine all the ingredients and knead the dough (thickness like pancakes).
  2. Lubricate the inner surface of the form with a brush with vegetable oil. Put the mold on the stove, turn on the gas and heat the mold for a few minutes.
  3. Open the top half of the form, pour a portion of the dough onto the bottom, close the form tightly. Bake for a few minutes on one side. Then turn the form over and bake the wafers on the other side until golden brown. The fire should be slightly less than average.
  4. After opening the mold and making sure that the waffle cookies are browned, open the waffle iron completely, tuck the waffles with a knife and pour them out of the mold onto a baking sheet.

On a note

Some waffle dough recipes replace some of the wheat flour with potato starch.

For the preparation of wafer cups for ice cream, as well as crispy thin wafer cakes, a recipe for unleavened dough is used. It includes 1 tbsp. flour, 1 tbsp. water, a pinch of soda and 1 egg.
