The cooking time takes less than half an hour, and the result exceeds all expectations. I am sharing my favorite quick recipe for delicious pastries from ready-made puff pastry. Photos taken step by step illustrate the whole process in detail.

So, we need:

- puff pastry (ready-made) - 200 grams;
- poppy - 50 grams;
- sugar - 60 grams;
- chicken egg - 1 piece;
- wheat flour - for working with dough.

The first step to baking is to make the poppy filling.

How to make poppy seed filling

Pour the poppy seeds into a deep, small container. Add granulated sugar and chicken egg. Leave a little yolk to grease the rolls.

Stir the poppy filling until smooth and proceed to the dough.

Roll out the puff pastry into a thin rectangular layer, as shown in the next photo. Grease the dough with the poppy filling, stepping back slightly from the edges.

Roll the dough into a roll, trying to make it dense. Pinch the edges of the roll so that the filling does not flow out when cutting the rolls.

Take a sharp knife and cut the roll into pieces, about two centimeters wide.

Put the rolls on a baking sheet with parchment. Top, brush them with the left yolk.

Send to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes at 180 degrees. The cooking time depends on the desired golden browniness of the baked goods.

A puff pastry roll with poppy seeds is an example of simple yet delicious homemade baked goods. Even an inexperienced chef can cook this dish, since everything is very simple. Ingredients:

For the test:
- butter - 120 g;
- wheat flour - 250 g;
- water - 100 ml;
- salt.

For filling:
- food poppy - 50 g;
- granulated sugar - 50 g;
- cream - 80 ml.

For glaze:
- egg yolk - 1 pc .;
- milk - 15 ml;
- poppy - 5 g.

We refrigerate all products for making puff pastry. Even a bowl of flour can be put in the refrigerator for a while.
So, we take chilled products, mix flour with butter, cut into small cubes and a pinch of fine table salt.




Quickly rub butter and flour with our hands until crumbs are obtained, pour ice water.
A few ice cubes added to a bowl of water will instantly make the water very cold.




Mix the ingredients with a tablespoon, roll it into a ball, wrap it in a bag, put it in the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes.




Sprinkle flour on the board, roll out the dough into a rectangle, put it in three layers, put it back in the refrigerator compartment for 20 minutes.






Roll out the dough again, fold it back into three layers and chill in the refrigerator. The more folds, followed by cooling, the more layers will turn out in the finished baked goods.




While the dough is freezing, we make the poppy filling. Cream, poppy seeds and sugar are all you need for the perfect filling.
Pour cream into a saucepan, add granulated sugar, add poppy seeds.




Cook over low heat for 20 minutes, then cool in the refrigerator.




Roll out the dough on a floured board, spread the poppy filling from the edge, distribute in a thin layer, not reaching the edge a few centimeters.






We roll up the roll, fasten the edges, put the roll in a greased form.
Mix the glaze - grind the yolk with milk. Lubricate the roll with glaze, sprinkle with poppy seeds.




We put the form in an oven heated to 210 degrees, cook for 25 minutes.

Puff pastry is a fat-rich composition and although the preparation of the dough will take a long time, there is always the opportunity to make it a lot and freeze it, having previously divided it into half a kilo portions. This will allow you to use the dough with various fillings, including the preparation of our poppy seed roll.

It is worth remembering that puff pastry must always be rolled in one direction, it depends on how it grows and whether it exfoliates!

In this case, the layer of dough without yeast should not be too thin, otherwise the structure of the dough will be lost. Also, the prepared poppy roll does not need to be placed on a greased baking sheet, since the dough is already quite fatty! Also, keep in mind that each puff pastry recipe involves baking it in a preheated oven. It is better to leave the baked roll on a baking sheet until it cools completely, and only after that it should be removed from the baking sheet and cut into portions! Now, let's look at the simplest recipe for making a poppy seed roll without yeast.

We have a choice: either make the puff pastry ourselves, or use the ready-made dough purchased at the supermarket.

For this poppy seed roll recipe, you need ready-made puff pastry!

  • Puff pastry - 500 gr;
  • Poppy - 200 gr;
  • Honey - 175 gr (5 tbsp. L.);
  • Flour - 1 tbsp. l. (no top);
  • Vanilla sugar - 1 pack;
  • Milk - 50 gr;
  • Egg (yolk) - 1 pc.

Step by step recipe

Puff poppy roll is prepared in two steps. Initially, you need to prepare the filling and dough, then proceed to assembly, as the recipe describes.

  • Since we will cook the cake from ready-made, frozen puff pastry, such a dough must initially be defrosted. It should not float, but only thaw, so that it would be easier to work with it.
  • We unfold the thawed dough on a clean kitchen towel, previously sprinkled with flour (you can also use cling film or parchment).
  • Roll out the dough right on the towel, not pressing hard and trying to do it in one direction.
  • The thickness of the dough should not exceed 3 mm, otherwise it will not exfoliate well and our poppy puffs will not be so fluffy.

Step 4 - lay out the filling and roll up

  • Beat the yolk until fluffy and grease the roll with it from the top and sides with a culinary brush - this will give a beautiful blush to the finished product.
  • Before baking the product, the oven must be preheated to 170 degrees. We put our product in a hot oven for 20 minutes with the lower burner on - this will let the dough rise and layer, and then put it for another 15 minutes with the lower and upper burners on.
  • This approach will allow the dough to rise well and brown. (this recipe describes the preparation of a roll in an electric oven, for a gas oven you can use the lower burner throughout the baking time).
  • We do not remove the finished roll from the baking sheet immediately, but let it cool completely, after which the product can be cut into portioned pieces in the form of individual buns.

And although this recipe involves the creation of one roll, you can immediately make portioned rolls by cutting the raw roll into pieces, and only then bake it. Also, the finished product can be sprinkled with powdered sugar if desired and served with tea, which received delicious buns.

Cooked in layers with poppy seeds, you can dilute with some other filling, this will make our roll even tastier and richer. For example, you can add nuts and make a roll with poppy seeds and nuts.

  1. First of all, we are preparing the ingredients for the filling. Put 100 g of poppy seeds in a small bowl. In a kettle, bring 200-250 ml of water to a boil and fill in the poppy seeds. We leave it to stand for 30 minutes. You can prepare poppy seeds in another way, putting it in a small saucepan, pouring 200-250 ml of plain water. We put the poppy on low heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes.

  2. After 15-30 minutes, drain the excess liquid and leave only the poppy. We place it in a mortar and crush it well with a pestle. If you do not have such a kitchen device, then you can transfer the poppy to a deep plate and slightly crush it with a regular crush.

  3. Pour 4 tbsp into the poppy. l. natural honey. To make the filling juicy, you need to use liquid honey. If you have thick honey, it is recommended to melt it in the microwave. Mix poppy with honey well for even distribution of the latter.

  4. Chop the walnuts a little with a kitchen knife. For the filling you need 7 tbsp. l. walnuts. Mix all products thoroughly.

  5. Let's start preparing the test. For a roll, you need 500 g of puff yeast dough. You can do it yourself or use a ready-made product. Sift through a sieve about 1-2 tbsp. l. flour and sprinkle on the work surface. We spread the dough on the work surface and roll it out with a rolling pin so that it takes on a rectangular shape. The rolled dough should be about 1–2 mm thick.

  6. Spread all the filling evenly over the rolled dough. It is necessary to leave 1 cm at the edges so that the roll wraps well.

  7. Gently roll the filled dough into a roll.

  8. We transfer it to a baking sheet covered with parchment paper or foil. In order for the roll to fit on a baking sheet, it must be wrapped in a ring shape.

  9. We make cuts of 1.5-2 cm along the edges of the roll. After that, we straighten the roll a little.

  10. Drive 1 chicken egg into a separate bowl and shake it until smooth. Lubricate the roll with a chicken egg so that when baking you get a beautiful, golden crust.

  11. Preheat the oven to 180-190 degrees and bake a roll with poppy seed filling. We bake the roll until tender and golden brown crust appears. On average, it takes 20-25 minutes. Then put it back in a bowl, add sugar and mix. Now we twist it several times through a meat grinder and proceed to the formation of a roll. To do this, defrost the dough in advance and roll it into a thin layer. Boil fresh water in a separate container, add a few tablespoons of sugar to it and wait until it is completely dissolved.
