Chainaya. Tea & Cocktails

Opening hours: Tue. - Thu: 18:00–01:00, Fri. - Sat: 18:00–03:00

Average check: 1 500 rubles

One of the oldest and most respected bars in the city, which is still only accessible by prior call or personal acquaintance. It is difficult to find a bar the first time - you need to look for an inconspicuous door in the yard without a sign. Inside, there's a dark opium-inspired interior, signature cocktails, and a small menu of Chinese food like noodles, wasabi shrimp, and gyoza.

Santo Spirito

A semi-secret bar in the basement of the Haggis Pub & Kitchen brasserie. A tiny room reminiscent of the same room from Lynch's Twin Peaks - black and white floor, red velvet, candles and bar counter. Irina Golubeva, who has managed to become one of the main figures in Moscow bar life, is responsible for the drinks at Santo Spirito. There is no cocktail card as such - to order a drink, it's easier to chat with the bartender and explain your preferences. It is better to get into the bar by calling in advance, but this is due more to the small size of the room than to excessive secrecy.

"Head"

Cheerful and noisy bar under the Moroccan restaurant "Tajin" was opened by three friends. One of them - Nikolai Volotov, known to many for his work at Strelka, took the post of head bartender at Golova. The cocktail menu is updated regularly; in addition to signature drinks, the bar offers classics, cider, beer, wine and spirits. On weekends, DJs are invited to the Head, and it is easy to find the bar by the noisy crowd standing at the entrance. In general, the "Head" has occupied an empty niche between snobbish clubs and too young bars - everything is in moderation here, so it turns out fun and easy.

"Fahrenheit"

Despite the fact that Fahrenheit is primarily a restaurant, in the evenings people flock to the bar counter from all over the city for cocktails. Denis Kryazhev, one of the best bartenders in the city, who collaborates with several other Dellos restaurants, is in charge of the bar here. In addition to the author's cocktails, which are regularly updated, Fahrenheit is famous for frequent tours of world-famous bartenders, which are definitely worth a special visit.

"Antique Boutique & Bar"

A completely atypical place for Moscow - a quiet antique shop with its own kitchen and bar. Kenan Assab is responsible for the drinks here, they can cook anything from classics to an impromptu cocktail. The Antiquarian also has a small menu, but the main charm of the local cuisine is that, at the request of the guest, they can create any dish if they find the right ingredients for it. You need to come for an early dinner or after a hard day's work - it is always calm and quiet in a good way, like at a party.

"Water"

Perhaps one of the most beautiful bars in the city, opened by Vitaly Bgantsev and Irina Golubeva. Finding "Water" is not easy the first time, you will have to wander a little through the winding courtyards of Petrovka until you find the right door, of course, without a sign. Although the bar does not position itself as a speakeasy, you can still get into it only by prior call. The first floor resembles an alchemist's bright laboratory, while the second is more like a relaxed English club. The bottles in the bar are devoid of branding, there is no bar list, but they prepare many signature cocktails, including the beloved rhubarb fizz.

Public

Small, but the main speakeasy bar of the city, hiding under the cafe "Iskra" on Pokrovka. A call before visiting is required - it's not an option to collapse with four even in the middle of the week. There is no cocktail card in Public, they prepare a drink after knowing the preferences of the guest. Overall, perfect for the evening.

"Box"

Bartender Yevgeny Shashin rules in a small bar under the Tekhnikum restaurant. The feature of the bar is distillates, which are not made from anything, and a white negroni. Almost all drinks in the bar are transparent, and most often they are colorless, so the taste of the drink is usually unexpected. The cocktail menu includes a dozen author's cocktails, as well as strong alcohol. Food is not served on principle, but you can always eat in the restaurant on the floor above.

Molon Lave Bar

The newly opened Greek bar of Samson Moisidis and Aleksey Karolidis, owners of the restaurant of the same name on Bolshaya Gruzinskaya. The cocktail menu was divided into three sections: "Logos", "Eros" and "Paphos". Each section has three author's cocktails, in addition, the bar makes classics and pours wine. For drinks, you can always take sets of snacks, meze, hot dishes and desserts. In general, another must-see place on the city map.

Mitzva Bar

Decent bar on Pyatnitskaya with good cocktails and food. In addition to classics, the bar has a lot of author's cocktails, lemonades, as well as wine and spirits. On weekends, parties are held here, world bartenders are periodically brought on tour, and in the summer they build a small veranda. If you find yourself in this area, then for a good drink you should definitely go here.

Pictured: Berlin Bar

"Klava"

Unsinkable bar on the Patriarchs, which only gets more fun from year to year. If you want to drink in silence and talk heart to heart, then Klava will definitely not suit you. Here you can drink yourself unconscious on a weekday, accidentally break a crystal glass while dancing and sing along loudly to the most forbidden tracks of Russian pop music.

"Chiho's Apartment"

A small underground bar in the basement of the Chiho noodle shop appeared after a fire broke out in the diner. Kenan Assab was invited to set up a bar here, the menu includes ten author's cocktails, as well as strong alcohol. The bar was decorated in the style of an old Chinese apartment from the 80s, and it's so bad it's just great. Antique furniture, a large aquarium, tea utensils and dimmed lights until dark - perfect for those who don't want to be found.

Saxon + Parole

Large restaurant with a small but very efficient bar. You don't have to go to Saxon for dinner, but it's worth stopping by for a cocktail. The bar menu is very large, besides, it is constantly updated with seasonal novelties. In addition to signature cocktails, excellent classics are made here, as well as wine and strong alcohol.

Berlin Bar

A small bar in the Mayakovskaya area is open only three days a week. On Fridays and Saturdays, parties are held here, but on Thursday you can go for a more relaxed evening cocktail. There is also food in the bar, and quite exquisite: grapefruit tartare, duck breast and a cheese plate. The interior of the bar is decent, the cocktails are appropriate. In general, a good bar for friends and foes.

"Shroedinger `s cat"

Another bar, which is very difficult to find, but there are no random people here. "Schrödinger's Cat" is quite small, they love it mainly for its intimacy and extraordinary serving of cocktails. If you want to escape from the snobbish audience of Bolshaya Dmitrovka, then turn into the courtyard and look for a metal cat on a visor - your option.

(London)

The best bar of the year is located at the Mondrian London hotel, which in itself hints at quality and luxury. However, bar pioneers Ryan Chetiyawardana (the best bartender of 2015 of the same award) and Iain Griffiths preach the philosophy of "quality and affordable".

Interestingly, the bar took second place last year, and third the year before. Confidently moving forward to victory.

The design of the bar is based on the balance of noble pink, green and gold, unobtrusive and friendly service. The team focuses on creating a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere within the walls of a glamorous hotel.

Cocktails, as the maestro assures, should make you think. The map, codenamed "Modern Plant Life", preaches a complex philosophy of interaction between man, animals and plants through the prism of the food system. To make it easier to make a choice, the map is divided into 3 categories: Mint, Grapes and Hops - the three most used ingredients in the production of alcohol. The menu also has its own interpretation of the classics. And more importantly, the guys paid special attention to non-alcoholic drinks.

Dandelyan positions itself as a "bar for the whole day", in the morning you can drink high-quality tea and hold a meeting, and at night you can break into a noisy company for a couple of drinks.

Despite the fact that this is a bar at the hotel, DJs play there on weekends. The music can be described as a mix between rock, funk and disco from the late 70s and early 80s. And Sunday is held under the auspices of hip-hop. What do you agree is rather unusual for a hotel bar?

2) (London)

You can talk about this bar endlessly, a couple of paragraphs are clearly not enough here. Last year's winner and top 5 of the last few years. The name of the bar is already associated with The World's 50 Best Bars ceremony itself. The bar, like the previous one, is located at a hotel in London, this time, Savoy.

Last year, the senior bartender Erik Lorincz left the bar, which is undoubtedly leading the bar to change. At least in drinks, since it was Eric who was responsible for the cocktail list.

American Bar is living history. A monument to the culture of drinking mixed drinks, which have been prepared there for about 130 years. This place can safely be called "Classic". Pioneers and revolutionaries of the bar industry such as Ada Coleman, Harry Craddock and Peter Dorelli worked there. Many of them are probably written in the books on the history of cocktails gathering dust on your shelves.

The bar's menu, titled Every Moment Tells a Story, was inspired by the work of famed photographer Terry O'Neil, which has long been a part of the bar. The cocktails that draw inspiration from each photo are themselves snapshots of an experience that is always present in the bar and never gets old, only gets better.

Each cocktail is given in a dish made especially for it and a bonfire in the form of a camera shutter.

As for music, this is a pianist who plays the best hits of American jazz. Classic in everything. The bar, by the way, is open only until midnight, no noisy parties for you.

3) MANHATTAN (Singapore)

Asia's best bar, inspired by the golden age of American cocktail history, welcomes you with great Chesterfield armchairs and rich furnishings. The bar is located, again, at the luxurious A Four Seasons Hotel. It captivates with its perfect balance between American hotel-inspired classic service and a flair for innovation at the same time.

One of such innovations at the junction with the classics can be considered the aging of drinks in a special storage that can hold more than 100 small barrels, with various "rested" cocktails inside. What adds to them, as you know, complexity and exclusive aromatics. Also in the bar there is a collection with more than 200 kinds of rare bourbons, rye and craft whiskeys. Huge emphasis is placed on "artisanal" alcohol and hand-made ingredients.

The menu, on the other hand, takes us along the road of the history of cocktails, different eras along the way and twists, both cocktail and historical. There is a place for both “food pairing” and restrained “perfect servo”.

Bar manager Philip Bischoff preaches the philosophy "If you're going to do something, give it 100% or don't do it at all." At the bar you can go to a brunch with alcohol for about $150. And he works until 7 in the morning. It is also worth saying that not only drinks are inspired by the 20s of the XX century, but also the cuisine.

A huge emphasis here, as in the American bar, is made precisely on history.

4) (New York)

If the two previous bars referred to America, then Nomad is located in its very center - New York. This year, the bar dropped one place down the top, but this obviously did not make it worse, 3 years in the top 10. Stability is a true sign of excellence. It is located, as you may have guessed, in the hotel of the same name.

The bar is inspired by old New York taverns. Bar director Leo Robitschek in his menu focuses on modified classic cocktails, where special attention is paid to exotic spirits and ingredients.

In terms of decoration, the bar is informally called "Elephant" where you will feel luxurious among exquisite green, gold and massive dark oak. Lots of leather and bookshelves, subdued soft light. The Nomad will also receive the title of the best bar in North America.

5) CONNAUGHT BAR (London)

Not so long ago the bar celebrated its tenth anniversary! CONNAUGHT BAR is located in London's The Mayfair Hotel with a memorable Art Deco interior. For 9 out of 10 years of its existence, the bar has been on the list of The World's 50 Best Bars! For such a merit, he was awarded the title "Legend of the List". Mixologist Ago Perrone has been in charge of it since the very opening. This bar, like classic drinks, never gets old.

In its design, the bar refers to the English and Irish cubism of the 1920s. There is a lot of platinum, silver, cold white and gray colors around, gold, mirrors and massive leather chairs and tables made of dark wood.

The feature of the bar can be considered a cart for preparing drinks right in front of you. The bar pays great attention to the classics, and especially Dry Martini. Here it can be cooked to your taste using a huge amount of different kinds of essences, bitters, etc.

The cocktail list is divided into several categories and is quite large (21 drinks). It was inspired by the architecture of the hotel itself. It also has a section of classics.

Bonus!
39) El Copitas (St. Petersburg)

Small and cozy Mexican cellar in St. Petersburg. Mescal flaunted on the shelves of which even before it officially appeared in Russia. You can talk forever about this bar and how it was opened. Rumor has it that at the start, the guys didn’t even have their own chairs - they were borrowed from “friends-bars”.

El Copitas is open 3 days a week and the guys are asked to book places in advance. Since it is physically impossible to accommodate everyone. The bar is constantly changing menu, I may be wrong, but in my opinion once a week or two. Everything is themed. Lots of talk, tacos and tequila.

El Copitas bartenders are often involved in various projects, and recently even published their own book in English.

And you can listen to an interview from our colleagues in the shop, in which there is a lot of interesting information about the bar and how it was opened.
