The tools you need to get creative

In addition to the fact that you need to learn how to make salty dough for modeling, it is also important to prepare the necessary tools and a set of accessories:

  • a small rolling pin or a bottle of water (you can't go anywhere without it!);
  • sculpting board;
  • knife;
  • a rod from a ballpoint pen (for creating holes and patterns);
  • brush;
  • container with water;
  • curly cookie cutters;
  • buttons, beads, rings, lace, etc. for making prints;
  • paints.

All this will be useful to you for creative work with the test.

Basic drying methods

When the product is ready, it must be properly dried. There are several methods. Let's consider the most popular ones.

Method 1 - In the oven (preheated)

Drying in a slightly open oven at a temperature of 55-80 ° C (the craft is placed in a preheated oven). Place the product on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or in an ovenproof dish. The process can take about an hour or longer, depending on the size of the figurine.

Method 2 - Natural conditions

This refers to drying in the open air (but not in direct sunlight). This method takes longer than the first, but is more efficient. The product is best placed on a wooden or plastic surface. Air drying takes about 3-4 days. But we do not recommend drying on a battery - this can lead to the fact that the craft will crack and crumble.

Method 3 - Oven (cold)

According to this method, crafts made from salted dough should be placed in a cold oven and only then turned on, eventually heating up to 150 ° C. In the same place, the products should also cool down while the oven cools down.

Unpainted dough figurines are attractive in themselves. However, after drying, they can be painted with gouache, watercolors or acrylics. They are good because they dry quickly, do not smudge and do not leave marks on your hands.

Dyeing methods:

  1. Stir the watercolors with a brush with some water and apply to the product so that they do not spread.
  2. Mix the gouache with PVA glue, evenly cover the craft with this mixture.
  3. You can give the dough a certain color even while kneading. Divide it into parts - there should be as many shades as you need to paint. Roll balls out of them, make a depression in the middle of each and add a couple of drops of food coloring diluted in water there. After that, knead the dough so that it is colored evenly.

Salted dough sculpting also allows you to use various elements for decoration. It can be cereals, pasta, buttons, shells, beads, all kinds of threads and ribbons. The scope for imagination is unlimited!

What is varnishing for?

Finished products are varnished so that the paint does not fade and does not wash off, and the appearance of the work does not deteriorate over time. Varnishing is used when necessary and solely at the request of the author.

You can add shine to the product with varnish:

  • liquid - they need to cover the product in several layers, the result is rosy and natural;
  • thick - it better protects the craft from moisture, you can use both a lacquer that gives a mirror shine, and a matte one.

It is preferable to use an aerosol varnish. A single application is enough for the colors to sparkle, and the work becomes protected from damage.

Although, practice shows that proper drying does not even allow you to resort to varnishing - the product will retain its original appearance for many years.

Possible problems and solutions

Here is a list of problems that can arise when drying or decorating a toy from salt dough:

  1. The dough is covered with bubbles or cracks after drying. This can be caused by the wrong choice of flour or failure to follow the drying rules. The simplest and most inexpensive flour is suitable for modeling - low-grade rye or wheat. And the product should be dried without unnecessary haste in a slightly preheated oven with the door ajar. In general, it is better if the craft dries naturally.
  2. The product is cracked after staining. This can happen if you start painting the craft that is not yet dry enough. Air dry it, smooth out the roughness with sandpaper and re-paint.
  3. The product is cracked due to its great thickness. In this case, the excess dough must be removed from the back or bottom. And in order for a large product to dry evenly in the oven, it must be turned over periodically.
  4. An element has broken off. You can try to glue it with PVA glue, but it's better to just smooth out the unevenness and decorate it with some kind of decoration.
  5. The craft faded after staining. Additional varnish coating can return the color to its former saturation and make the craft brighter.

Salt dough crafts

According to some assumptions, the first dough moldings were used by chefs to decorate baked goods. Today, anything can be sculpted from such a wonderful material: paintings, souvenir figurines, and toys.

So, when you already know how to make salty dough, let's get down to creating, in fact, crafts from it.

2015 is the year of the wooden sheep, so the most relevant souvenir is the salted dough sheep. We offer you MK for making such a figurine.

Do you want something interesting?

You will need:

  • fine table salt;
  • Wheat flour;
  • cold water;
  • foil;
  • brush;
  • whitewash;
  • gouache;
  • black marker.

Step-by-step sequence of actions:

  1. Combine equal proportions of flour and fine salt, add a little water.
  2. Knead an elastic dough and send it to chill in the refrigerator for two hours.
  3. After this time, you can start sculpting. We sculpt 4 balls from salted dough. These will be the legs of a lamb. Place them as shown in the picture.
  4. Roll up a piece of foil and place it in the dough. Then a ball must be rolled out of the cake - this is the body of a lamb, it must be laid on top of its legs.
  5. Now, from the pieces of dough, mold the head, curl horns, ears and eyes.
  6. To get something like curly sheep's wool, roll up many small balls and place them evenly on the back of our animal.
  7. The workpiece is ready. It remains to place it in the oven, preheated to the minimum temperature. The lamb should dry thoroughly without cracking. At a temperature of 50 ° C, it will take about 3 hours to dry and another half an hour to cool down.
  8. Then cover the entire surface of the figurine with white. Wait for them to dry completely.
  9. Color the lamb with gouache. And with the help of a permanent marker, you can draw eyelashes, a mouth, outline the horns and other details as you wish.
  10. Finish with a varnish on the lamb. The varnish will add shine and smoothness to the craft, giving the craft a finished look.

Testoplasty allows you to create not only small volumetric souvenirs, but also whole pictures from salted dough. Of course, creating them will require some skill, patience and perseverance. However, the result is able to exceed all expectations, becoming a wonderful gift for loved ones or decoration of the interior of your home.

We act in stages:

  1. The creation of a picture, like any other dough crafts, begins with the preparation of the dough itself. There are many different variations of recipes, but the most popular is this: 1 tbsp. finely ground salts, 2 tbsp. flour, 200 ml of water. Knead an elastic, salty craft dough, wrap it in a plastic bag, and refrigerate it for a couple of hours.
  2. Take out the finished material and you can start creating, pinching off a piece of dough from the bag (it quickly becomes covered with a crust in the air).
  3. Use water instead of glue to connect the parts together.
  4. It is most convenient to create a picture on foil. It is imperative to dry the result: in the oven or in the air.
  5. When the craft is dry, paint it with gouache and cover with two coats of varnish.
  6. Finally, attach the painting to canvas or any other framed fabric.

All sorts of cats, birds, snowmen, bears, dachshunds, flowers and much more look very beautiful. You can create pictures based on the plot of a particular fairy tale - this will be especially interesting for children. You can see some examples of works for inspiration in the pictures.

Symbolic figurines-mukosolki

Salted dough is a great alternative to clay... And crafts made from it can become a unique decoration for your home or an original idea for a gift. It has long been believed that the mukosolka in the house is a symbol of prosperity and family well-being.

Regardless of what kind of figures you plan to make, the dough for them can be prepared according to one of the recipes above.

  1. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin until it is 0.5 cm thick.
  2. Make prints of any cookie cutters on this sheet. These are future salty dough figurines.
  3. Turn on the oven and line the baking sheet with baking paper.
  4. Use a wooden spatula or just your hands to transfer the figurines to the baking sheet.
  5. Use a cocktail tube or a toothpick to make a hole in each of the figures so that you can then thread a thread through it and hang the figures on, say, a Christmas tree (or hang them around the house).
  6. Bake items in the oven at the lowest temperature for several hours.
  7. Transfer them to a flat surface and let cool.
  8. Color the toys as you like.

Here are some more examples of mukosolki design, which are easy to make, but look amazing!

  1. Each recipe for salty dough for crafts involves the use of exclusively wheat or rye flour (but definitely not pancake flour) and finely ground salt (not iodized, since the dough will not turn out to be homogeneous, but with large inclusions).
  2. Use very cold water for mixing. Add it in portions, kneading the dough carefully. Depending on the flour you choose, you may need a different amount of water.
  3. The dough should not stick to your hands or crumble. If it doesn't stick well, add a little water, and if it sticks, add a little flour.
  4. Salted dough is perfectly stored in the refrigerator in a plastic bag or in a container with a tight-fitting lid. Use it piece by piece as needed, because the finished dough in the air quickly becomes covered with a dry crust, which spoils the appearance of the products. The shelf life of the test is 1 week.
  5. Crafts made from small elements look sleeker. To make the parts stick well to each other, moisten the joints with water using a brush.
  6. To tint the dough itself, add a little food coloring (for Easter eggs) diluted in water. You can create new shades from the dough of different colors: to do this, simply knead the multi-colored pieces with your fingers.

Testoplasty is not just children's fun, but also a corrective lesson that allows you to develop fine motor skills of the hands, perseverance and imagination of babies, bringing up an aesthetic taste. And for adults, it's a great way to express yourself and rejuvenate. We wish you inspiration, and let your creativity be only a joy!

Modeling is one of the most rewarding activities for babies. With its help, not only fine motor skills of the hands develops, but also perseverance, imaginative thinking and coordination of movements are developed.

One of the best materials for sculpting with your child is salt dough. It is completely safe, contains no harmful additives and is easy to use. Crafts made from salt dough with your own hands will become wonderful souvenirs for your relatives and friends.

Universal recipes

You can find a great variety of salt dough recipes. Each master adds his own additives to them, selecting the desired consistency. The main products for kneading dough are salt, flour and water.

Depending on the purpose, its density may be different:

  • dense dough - for large parts and creating massive panels;
  • universal dough of medium consistency - it is convenient to make small pictures and figures from it;
  • soft dough - delicate and pliable, it is suitable for small items, exquisite flowers and figurines.
Some needlewomen measure ingredients in grams, while others prefer to use proportions in parts.

Dense dough

For work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. edible salt - 1 part;
  3. water - 0.7 parts.

That is, to knead this type of dough, you need to take one identical measure (glass, cup, tablespoon) of salt and flour and 0.7 of the same measure of water.

Combine dry ingredients in a deep bowl and add cold water little by little. The dough should be smooth and very firm. Grains of salt will remain in it - this is normal, do not worry. Depending on the moisture content and the quality of the flour and salt, you may need a little more or less water. Therefore, you cannot pour it into the dough all at once.

Medium dough (universal)

For work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. water - 1 part;
  3. edible salt - ½ part;
  4. finely ground salt (extra) - ½ part.
By replacing half of the coarse salt with fine salt, this type of dough turns out to be more plastic and pliable. It is convenient to sculpt even a child from such an obedient mass. But for the smallest details and realistic crafts, such a dough is also not suitable.

Soft dough

For work you will need:
  1. wheat flour - 1 part;
  2. hot water - 1/4 part;
  3. finely ground salt (extra) - 1 part;
  4. PVA glue - ¾ part.
Combine salt with flour, then add thick PVA glue and mix. Pouring in hot water little by little, knead a soft dough. It must be wrapped in plastic wrap, allowed to rest and cool.

This dough is ideal for tricky jobs. It perfectly holds its shape, preserving the prints and the texture created on it. Its quality directly depends on the quality of the selected glue.

Figures sculpted from salt dough with glue differ special durability. They will delight their owner for more than one year.

  1. If you plan on dyeing finished products, it is better to use wheat flour, although rye flour can be used for salty dough.
  2. Do not take iodized salt - the finished figurines may crack when dried.
  3. The dough can be tinted while kneading. For this, food colors or watercolors are used.
  4. The finished dough must be wrapped in plastic wrap or plastic bag to prevent it from drying out.
  5. Unsuccessful dough can be reanimated. In the liquid, you need to add a little more flour and re-knead, the too tight dough is moistened with water and kneaded, achieving the desired consistency.
  6. Do not add grease or hand cream to the dough you intend to dye from - the paint will lay unevenly.
  7. The finished dough should be stored in the refrigerator for no more than 2 days. It loses its qualities and it will be inconvenient to work with it.
  8. It is best to sculpt bulky products on wire or cardboard frames so that they do not fall apart.
  9. Crafts can be dried naturally by leaving them for a couple of days, baked in a warm oven, or left next to a radiator. It is categorically not recommended to put figures on the battery itself in order to avoid their cracking.
  10. It is best to paint crafts with acrylic paint or gouache. Watercolors should not be used: there is a risk of soaking and ruining the product.
  11. The junction of the parts must be moistened with water using a brush. So they will connect firmly and quickly.
  12. The finished souvenir can be coated with colorless nail polish or acrylic varnish. This will protect it from moisture and the paint from fading.
Armed with your new knowledge, try putting it into practice.

Cute hedgehog - toy for toddlers

Would you like to know what you can do with your child from salt dough? Start with the simplest crafts. The younger your baby is, the easier products for joint creativity should be. Try to mold a prickly hedgehog, and a detailed description of the process in this mk guarantees an excellent result and a good mood from a useful activity.

First, prepare your all-purpose salt dough and nail scissors. Roll a drop-shaped blank from a piece of dough.

The eyes and nose of a hedgehog can be made from beads, black peppercorns, or pre-dyed dough.

The needles are made using incisions. Use the tips of the scissors to make small cuts while lifting the needles up.

Perform the next row in a checkerboard pattern - with an offset. Make cuts row by row until the entire back of the hedgehog is covered with needles.

Dry the finished toy in the oven or simply in a warm and dry place. If you wish, you can color it or entrust this important matter to a child.

An original souvenir - a funny dachshund

You can start preparing for the upcoming New Year holidays in advance and make a funny dachshund as a gift to your friends.

For work you will need:
  • universal salted dough (see the recipe above);
  • cardboard, pencil, scissors;
  • paints and brush;
  • a piece of rope;
  • clear nail polish;
  • toothpick;
  • foam sponge;
  • glue "Dragon".
Prepare a drawing of a dachshund. You can sketch it by hand or print it out. Cut out the outline of the dog.

Transfer the template to a piece of cardboard and cut.

Roll out the dough about 5 mm thick on baking paper. Attach a template and cut out the outline of the dachshund along it. Carefully remove the cuttings so as not to deform the workpiece.

Roll up two balls and form them into oblong dachshund eyes. Glue them on a drop of water to the head of the workpiece. Moisten all the sections of the dog with water and iron it with your fingers to remove any irregularities.

Use two small pieces of dough to make the eyelids and glue them over the eyes. Use a toothpick to outline the ear, legs, mouth, nose, and body contours.

Now you need to add volume to the workpiece. Roll an oval out of the dough, glue it to your ear and smooth the joint with a wet finger.

Add volume to the back of the dachshund and tail in the same way.

Use a toothpick to press the oblong indentations along the perimeter of the figurine. Make them randomly of different lengths from the edges of the body to the center.

It's time to dry the workpiece in a warm oven. Bake it until it is completely hard.

The dry figurine needs to be painted. Apply black gouache over any bumps or dents.

After the first coat of paint has dried, paint the dachshund yellow. Put some paint on a foam sponge and tint the entire body, while the dents should remain black - do not overdo it.

For a dried dachshund, paint the eyes with white. Make any inscription you want.

Glue a piece of string to the back of the craft.

Cover the item with clear varnish and let it dry. The result of the work done is impressive - the mischievous puppy is ready.

Secure the cap to the stem of the mushroom using super glue or Moment. It should be tilted slightly towards the back.

Take care of the design. Blind and secure the handles, legs and nose to the mushroom.

You can decorate the figurine with a funny caterpillar or mold another decorative element, such as a ladybug.

Dry the shaped workpiece.

Color in the figurine, draw the eyes and nose, and cover with varnish. The amazing fungus is ready. Salting and eating it will not work, but decorating a shelf with it is easy.

Funny piggy pendants

  • paints and brush;
  • foam sponge;

Basic "working recipe" for simple crafts:

For 1 glass of flour, take half a glass of salt and half a glass of water. At the same time, we take the same number of grams of flour and salt by weight, but the flour is larger in volume, therefore half a glass of salt comes out per glass of flour.

Salt dough recipe for fine parts:

To the main, working recipe, add a tablespoon of starch, or wallpaper glue, or PVA glue, and the wallpaper glue must first be diluted with water in a standard proportion.

Recipe for Strong Salty Dough for Large Crafts:

A glass of flour, a glass of salt, half a glass of water.

Dough recipe for thin parts:

One and a half glasses of flour, half a glass of salt, 4 tablespoons of glycerin, sold in pharmacies, 2 tablespoons of wallpaper glue (previously diluted with water). You can stir the mass in the best quality with a mixer - this is quick and the composition turns out to be successful.

How to get colored dough:

Salted dough is beautifully tinted with watercolors, food colors, gouache. If you add cocoa, you can get a great chocolate color. Please note that when the product dries, the color will become somewhat lighter, less bright, so be sure to cover the product with varnish after drying - the color will become brighter and more saturated.

How to mix flour

You cannot take flour with additives - baking powder and yeast, so be sure to read the composition! Just plain flour, or make a pie? A roll will rise and there will be.

Take fine salt, extra. The grains dissolve quickly and go well into the flour. Rock salt does not dissolve well and can form grains. First mix the salt and flour and then add the water!

Store the kneaded dough in a plastic bag so that there is no air access. In the air, the dough becomes covered with a crust, but this should not be allowed. You should also remove the modeling dough from the bag in parts to work with fresh material.

Salt dough tools

A rolling pin - for rolling the dough, a knife - for cutting off the required pieces of dough, a comb - it is good to make relief patterns, a rod from a gel pen is convenient for squeezing holes in the dough.

Stamps can be made from anything that comes to hand. For example, some buttons, burlap, molds from children's sets for playing in the sand, handles of forks and knives from sets. The scope for creativity is limited only by your imagination and the presence of things in the house.

How to dry salt dough crafts

1 put the oven at the lowest temperature.

2 if the temperature is not regulated, then keep the fire to a minimum and slightly open the oven door (for gas stoves)

3 place the product in a cold oven, warming up should occur gradually, without sudden changes. In the same way, the product should cool down inside the oven, after turning it off.

4 some masters recommend drying in stages, taking breaks between dryings. It is believed that this will make the product stronger. For example, an hour dries in the oven, dries for a day by itself, then turn on the oven again and dry it for another hour, then dry it again for a day at room temperature.

5 the time required to dry a particular product depends on the mass of flour, on the size of the craft.

Coloring and varnishing

You can take any paints, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, whatever is closer to you, then use it. It is best to cover the paint on top with acrylic varnish, but construction varnish, water-based, for wooden surfaces will also go.

If the product bulges or cracks

If it swells, it means that the flour was taken incorrectly. The best option is flour without any additives. For better adhesion of flour, you can add rye to wheat flour, in a ratio of 1 to 1, or 50 grams of starch, this will give the dough the necessary plasticity. You can also add a tablespoon of PVA construction glue to the dough.

If cracked, it means that the process of the ears did not go according to technology. Ideally, it is best if the product dries at room temperature, by itself, without any ovens. But in this case, the drying time can be more than a week. We don't want to wait, so you can dry at the lowest temperature in the oven if it's electric. Or with the door ajar, on minimum gas, if it is gas. At the same time, it is also important to turn the product over so that it dries evenly. Every hour and a half, you need to turn the dough piece during the drying process, otherwise it may crack.

The craft should be painted after it has completely dried., otherwise the paint may also crack due to the movement of the dough, which is not completely dried.

If something has fallen off, then glue it with PVA building glue. Holds up perfectly!

These are all the main secrets of kneading salt dough. for crafts. Otherwise, the experience will come with each subsequent product. Create and delight the world with your handmade products!

Idea - a candlestick made of salted dough

For a very long time I lost sight of such handicrafts as molding from salt dough. And this despite the fact that I was always interested in both ceramics and polymer clay (plastic), but I avoided salty dough. Then somehow information came from different sides and I even tried to sculpt myself. I liked it, it was only embarrassing that the finished product cannot be instantly dried. However, salty dough gave a lot of opportunities for making various items for the interior - not only decorative, but also utilitarian.

If you love creating products for home and interior design, then you should definitely try making crafts from salt dough too! For example, you can mold such a candlestick for a tea candle from it, or you can add something of your own to the design of the candlestick - painting or decoration.

Salt dough infographic for beginners

Salted dough is simply a unique material for those who love to sculpt. You can make many beautiful things for your home from it: candlesticks, panels, souvenirs, everyday things. You may find it difficult to make pottery out of clay, but salt dough is much easier to work with!

Salt dough crafts - frog

For lovers of salt dough modeling: a very good master class from Svetlana Kanochkina.

So, how to make such a cute frog (looks like a ceramic one). I'd like to learn this sculpting technique. So far, I have only made a candlestick and a fish, and even then, the fish's tail fell off during the drying process.

We form the torso.

We pay attention to details.

The frog is still "disassembled".

We glue all parts of the craft with water mixed with PVA glue.

A porous skin can be formed with a toothpick.

Here we have such a beautiful craft frog made of salt dough. It can be done with your child.

Happy child 13.09.2017

Dear readers, many of us have children and grandchildren who love creativity. And it's wonderful. We offer children paints and pencils, felt-tip pens and plasticine. And more and more often in children's development centers, kindergartens and schools, instead of plasticine, they use salted dough for modeling. Stationery and baby product makers quickly caught the wave and put dozens of types of salted dough on store shelves. How does it not happen! And colored, and just white, and shiny.

Of course, you can buy a ready-made color test set. But it is quite realistic and completely easy to make it yourself, at home, because flour and salt will certainly be found in the kitchen of any housewife. Today on the blog, the head of the column, Anna Kutyavina, has prepared for you an excellent selection of recipes for salt dough for modeling. I give Anya the floor.

Hello dear readers of Irina's blog! Modeling with plastic materials is a very useful activity for kids. After all, it not only develops fine motor skills of the hands, but helps the child to master spatial thinking, textures, colors and shapes. In addition, children often feel like real creators of something new and significant while sculpting.

The modern industry offers a large selection of plasticine for modeling. But now I would like to talk about salt dough as a good alternative to purchased plasticine. Its main advantage is safety. Due to the fact that salted dough is made only from safe ingredients - flour, salt, water, high quality food colors - it is an ideal option for the first creative experiences of the baby. After all, if a child pulls a piece of plasticine into his mouth, this, to put it mildly, will not be useful for him. And from salty dough, in which case, there will be no harm.

Plus, salted dough can be made quickly and easily at home. The ingredients are very affordable and can be found in every kitchen, and the recipes are so simple that they don't even require any significant effort. But then what a wide field for creativity!

Benefits of Salted Modeling Dough

Modeling dough is a mass similar to ordinary plasticine. But, unlike the usual hard pieces of colored plasticine, salty dough:

  • much softer and more pleasant to the touch;
  • does not stick to hands;
  • does not stain hands and clothes;
  • does not have an unpleasant odor;
  • does not cause allergic reactions;
  • safe when swallowed, but at the same time tasteless - the child can taste it, but immediately spit it out and lose interest in it.

Types of dough for modeling

Creative teachers and moms and dads came up with a lot of salt dough recipes:

  • classic salted dough;
  • cooked in the microwave;
  • brewed over a fire;
  • glowing in the dark;
  • with starch;
  • with the addition of glycerin, citric acid, vegetable oil, spices, baby cream and even wallpaper glue.

The structure of the resulting dough can be influenced by the temperature of the water, the quality of the flour, the amount of ingredients. So if suddenly the first time it turned out not quite what you expected - it does not matter, try again. Many mothers share that they interfere with the mixture by eye, and it turns out wonderfully.

Features of cooking salty dough

For the dough to be successful, there are several important things to consider. Firstly, it is better to take only ordinary flour, wheat, other types - pancake, with different additives - are not suitable.

Secondly, fine salt is more suitable, "Extra". Large grains of salt can make crafts look unkempt. Although there are recipes with coarse salt.

Thirdly, it is best to use cold water, even ice cold. To make the dough more plastic, potato starch is added to it. And to increase the strength of the material in the recipe, PVA glue diluted in water is used. To obtain a high-quality dough, you need to knead it intensively with your hands.

High-quality dough is soft, dense, elastic, it does not crumble or stick to hands, it has a uniform color.

You can paint the dough either immediately during kneading, or then paint the finished craft. You can paint both with special food colors, and independently created from cocoa, carrot or beetroot juice, coffee. The dried product is then painted with gouache.

The finished material for modeling is wrapped in a bag and kept in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. It is permissible to use the dough for a month if stored in a cold place.

How to make salted modeling dough - recipes

We will now consider the most reliable and at the same time uncomplicated dough recipes. In addition, the smaller the child, the easier the dough should be - it is better to refrain from complex recipes with "inedible" ingredients. Let's look at recipes for salt dough for beginners step by step.

Classic salty

Any crafts can be made from such material, it is safe and very simple.

Ingredients:

  • white flour - 200 g;
  • fine salt "Extra" - 200 g;
  • chilled water - 125 ml.

You need to add salt to the flour and mix well. Then pour water into the dry mixture in small portions, stirring all the time, in order to end up with a homogeneous and smooth mass. It is also important to monitor the consistency of the dough - it should not be very runny.

Second classic recipe

This recipe is very popular among both experienced craftsmen and beginners in sculpting.

Ingredients:

  • white flour - 300 g;
  • salt - 300 g;
  • cool water - 200 ml.

Take a deep bowl. Pour salt into it, add a little water. When the salt dissolves, add the sifted flour to the mixture. Start kneading in a bowl, and when a lump forms, transfer the mass to the table and knead. To make the dough more plastic, gradually introduce water.

From this number of components, a lot of dough is obtained. If you are not planning large volumes of crafts, you can reduce the amount of ingredients by 2-4 times.

Salt mass in the microwave

You can quickly prepare the modeling dough in the microwave.

Ingredients:

  • water - two parts of water;
  • coarse white or rye flour - two parts;
  • fine salt - one part;
  • tartar - 1 tbsp. l .;
  • food coloring;
  • vegetable oil - 1 tbsp. l.

Mix all ingredients. Pour the mixture into a microwave oven dish. Keep in the oven at medium power for five minutes. When the mass has cooled down, it must be thoroughly kneaded.

Salted dough in 5 minutes

The dough according to this recipe is well suited for those who like to sculpt a lot, often with the whole family.

Ingredients:

  • water - 1 cup;
  • flour - 1 cup;
  • salt - 0.3 cups;
  • soda - 2 tsp;
  • vegetable oil - 1 tsp;
  • food coloring.

Pour soda, salt and flour into the container, pour in water with vegetable oil. Then put the saucepan over low heat and heat for a few minutes.

Add color and mix well. As soon as the dough starts to stick to the spoon, turn it off, it's ready. Place it on a plate and let cool. Then knead well with your hands.

Such a quick dough is famous for another feature - if you follow the storage rules, keep it in the refrigerator, the mixture retains its properties for several months.

Elastic dough

This recipe produces a very flexible material that is easy to work with.

Ingredients:

  • wheat flour - 1.5 cups;
  • water - 1.5 cups;
  • salt - 2 cups.

Mix dry ingredients and pour in water little by little until the mixture becomes plastic and homogeneous. Crafts from such a test will turn out to be durable and aesthetic.

Coarse salt dough

There will be quite a lot of such material, so if you need a small portion, you should reduce the volume of the components several times. The composition is the same as in the classic dough, only coarse salt is taken instead of fine.

Ingredients:

  • coarse salt - 300 g;
  • wheat flour - 300 g;
  • water - 200 ml (1 glass).

Pour in salt, pour most of the water into a large container. When the salt dissolves, sifted flour is poured into the liquid in portions. The dough is kneaded.

Salty dough glowing in the dark

Children will definitely like this dough!

Ingredients:

  • warm water - 2 glasses;
  • white flour - 2 cups;
  • salt - 2/3 cup;
  • vitamin B in capsules or tablets - 2 pcs.;
  • vegetable oil - 2 tbsp. l .;
  • tartar - 4 tsp

Grind the vitamins to a powder. Mix it with salt, flour and tartar. Pour in water and oil, mix until smooth.

Cook over low heat until the mass becomes sticky and resembles plasticine.

Recipe for volumetric figures

This dough makes the figurines strong and sturdy.

Ingredients:

  • white flour - 200 g;
  • salt - 400 g;
  • ice water - 1.5 cups.

Dissolve the salt in water. Add the sifted flour a little at a time. Knead the dough.

Dough with glue (not for small children!)

This recipe is not entirely natural, but it helps the mixture to set and dry faster.

Ingredients:

  • flour - 1.5 cups;
  • water - 1.5 cups;
  • salt - 1 glass;
  • glycerin - 4 tbsp. l .;
  • dry wallpaper glue or PVA - 2 tbsp. l.

Mix everything except glue, knead the dough like for dumplings. Add glue, previously diluted in a small amount of water. Stir the resulting mass well.

Drying salt dough at home

The prepared figurines must be dried well. This can be done outdoors, outdoors or indoors, where a fresh air stream circulates. This drying option is the most economical.

It is best to dry your crafts in the sun. The thicker the product, the longer it will take to dry. The color after hardening of the craft will not change.

The second drying option is the oven. For a couple of days, the products are dried in the fresh air, then the oven is heated to 50 ˚С. It is necessary to cover the baking sheet with paper, lay out the crafts and dry, increasing the temperature to a maximum of 140 ˚С. Drying at 50 ° C lasts approximately 3 hours, at 140 - half an hour. But you should not set the maximum temperature right away - the products may crack.

If the figures are still cracked, you can fix it with a mixture of PVA glue and ordinary flour, filling the cracks with a thin brush.

To understand if the product is dry, you just need to knock on it. A dull sound indicates that the figurine is still damp, and a ringing sound indicates that it is already finished.

How to arrange crafts

Finished figures are painted with paints. Better to take acrylic - they do not paint the skin, do not smudge and dry quickly. You can paint with gouache mixed with PVA glue, and even watercolors. Or you can just leave the products in their original form.

When sculpting, you can use various decorative elements: beads, buttons, threads, ribbons, small shells, cereals and pasta. If the product is cracked after staining, you can dry it in the fresh air, then eliminate the imperfections with sandpaper and paint again.

Varnish coating can protect the craft from defects. Also, this measure will prevent paint fading and preserve the aesthetics of things for a long time. Liquid varnish will make the craft blush and give it a natural shine. Thick will reliably protect against moisture, make the surface of the product matte or shiny. Spray varnish protects the surface from damage and makes it brighter.

Salt dough crafts

Now I invite you to see what kind of crafts you can do with your children. Photos of such crafts were sent to us by Anya Pavlovsky. Her daughter Svetlana, five years old, under the guidance of a teacher Tatiana Viktorovna Semenovs (MBDOU kindergarten №32, Izhevsk) made just such a beauty from salt dough.

Choose the recipe that suits you best, try and create with your children. After all, childhood is a wonderful time when any manifestation of imagination becomes a masterpiece! So let creativity be not only fun, but also safe!

Joyful creativity to you and your children!

I thank Anya for such a creative theme for everyone. Agree, sometimes you start to do something with children like that and you get carried away too. So not only our children enjoy such activities, but we ourselves can also escape from the routine, immerse ourselves in creativity, and relax our souls. And, of course, this is such a wonderful occasion to be with your children and chat with them.

Recipe # 1 - for simple crafts.
200 g = (1 cup) flour
200 g = (0.5 cups) salt (fine, NOT rock salt).
125 ml water
Please note that salt is heavier than flour, so they are the same in weight, and in volume, salt takes about half the size.
Salty dough - recipes and sculpting methods
For thin embossed figures, add your choice:
15-20 g (tablespoon) PVA glue or
starch (tablespoon)
wallpaper glue (pre-stir it with a little water)

Recipe number 2 - Strong dough for large products:
200 g flour
400 g salt
125 ml water

Recipe number 3 - Dough for delicate works:
300 g flour
200 g salt
4 tablespoons glycerin (available at the pharmacy)
2 tbsp glue for plain wallpaper + 125-150 ml of water premix.

For kneading, it is better to use a mixer - this will simplify the task, and the dough will be of better quality.
Universal recipe for salt dough: 2 cups flour; you can add dry starch to the flour, without leaving the norm of two glasses. For example, 1.5 cups flour + 1/2 tbsp. starch. With the addition of starch, the dough will become more elastic. Fine details are especially good from such a dough, for example, flower petals.), 1 glass of salt, 1 incomplete glass of water, about 180 g, you can add 2 tables. spoons of PVA glue. Instead of water, you can boil a starch paste.
Mix all ingredients. Knead the dough until the mass becomes homogeneous and elastic, if the dough turns out to be thin, then you can knead it further, adding a little flour until it becomes elastic.

Water can be replaced with starch jelly, then the mass will be much more plastic. Kissel is done like this:
Dissolve one tablespoon of starch in 1/2 cup of cold water. Also, heat 1 glass of water in a small saucepan to a boil. Pour the starch solution into boiling water, stirring occasionally. When the contents of the saucepan are thick and clear, turn off the heat. Let the jelly cool and pour it into the flour and salt mixture instead of water.

METHODS FOR COLORING SALT Dough

You can tint salt dough with food colors, watercolors or gouache. You can also dye when preparing the dough, introducing a dye during kneading, and the finished product itself - on the surface.
An excellent chocolate color is obtained with the addition of cocoa. You can experiment with other natural dyes - soot, beet juice, carrot juice, ocher, etc. You can brown the product made of salted dough in the oven for a natural color.
When touching up, it should be borne in mind that after drying, the color will become less saturated, but if you cover the craft with varnish, it will become brighter again. What kind of varnish can I use? Acrylic and art are very good. It is also possible to apply the usual water-based construction for breathable surfaces i.e. for parquet or wood.
FEATURES AND METHODS OF PREPARING SALT Dough:
There are a few things you shouldn't do with salted dough. So, for example, you cannot add pancake flour (or flour with any others with additives) to the salted dough, since the figurines will rise as a good dough for pies and crack when dry.
Also, you can not add iodized salt, large inclusions do not dissolve, subsequently the dough is not homogeneous - into a grain. Likewise, rock salt cannot be added without first dissolving.
About the water. So, in the dough it is best to use very cold water; be sure to add in parts of 50 ml after each addition, knead (due to the fact that for different flours, you may need a different amount of water).

Salt is first mixed with flour, and only then water is poured into the finished mass.
Salted dough is stored in a plastic bag or tightly closed container. It is better to take out salted dough from a plastic bag in small pieces, since the lumps of dough quickly become crusty and when rolling or sculpting, these dry crusts spoil the look.
And one more thing, if the figures are thick (more than 7 mm), then after the first stage, you need to take out the excess dough from the back side (The drawing is in Khananova's book, on the page - in books)

The dough may be too soft. Then proceed as follows: At the bottom of a bowl, mix a tablespoon of flour with a tablespoon of salt. Press a lump of dough onto this mixture and then crush it. Do this until the dough is thicker.
You can sculpt or cut the figures right on the baking sheet. The baking sheet should first be moistened with water, in which case bubbles will not form between the product and the surface of the baking sheet, therefore, the surface of the product will be even and stable.
Everything that falls off is just wonderful and the main thing is not noticeably glued with PVA glue.
Swelling or crackling of salt dough crafts occurs in three cases:
If the flour is incorrectly selected. For greater strength, you can add rye flour to the dough (the color will be warmer and there should be no crackles) (for example, a glass of ordinary + a glass of rye, 1 to 1), 50 gr. starch - also give the dough elasticity and prevent cracking. You can also add PVA glue, since it also gives plasticity and does not allow the dough to rise.
If drying has not been done correctly (see next section)
If crackling occurs after painting, this means that the product is not completely dry (the product continues to dry and the air needs to go somewhere), therefore, the surface of the paint or varnish cracks. Do not rush to paint or varnish the product, so that later you do not regret it and do not redo it.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTION: HOW TO DRY SALTED Dough?
It is best to air dry under natural conditions, but it takes a long time (complete drying can take a week or more - especially if the humidity is high during drying - since the salt pulls moisture), so you can dry in the oven, observing a few rules.
The oven must be at the lowest temperature
It is good if drying goes with the oven lid ajar
Do not put items in a hot oven right away, heating should be done gradually. As well as taking out the product from the oven, it is better if it cools down gradually instead of with the oven.
It is ideal to dry in several stages: an hour has dried up on one side, the craft has been turned over, dries from the inside out. I also take breaks between dryings, an hour dries in the oven - it dries for a day on its own - then again an hour and a half in the oven on the back side.
The drying time of a salted dough product depends on the thickness of the product itself. And also from the applied manufacturing recipe. So, dough containing oil, cream, etc. dries much longer than dough without oil additives.
To avoid crackling of the product, you can dry it in three to four stages, in the oven at the very minimum and always with the lid open for about an hour and a half, then a break for two or three hours, or for the whole night, the craft dries by itself, and then again turn on the oven to a minimum with the lid open.
With natural and oven drying, the craft must be turned at each stage of drying, i.e. an hour dries with the front side, rests, at the next stage they turned it over and dries already with the back side.
IN THIS WAY, WE COVERED THE BASIC RECIPES AND METHODS OF FORMING SALTED Dough.
